Okay ... so I was able to do some quick renders and such. I like the fact that I was able to get the randomness of the dwellings. The colors and shading are what I was looking for. Haven't gotten into any serious textures. The trees are too skinny compared to the pics though. They need to be fuller at the top, and perhaps just a tiny bit shorter. I'll delete some of the trees when I add sparse grass and rocks.

Looking at the reference photos (see below), I noticed that some of the structures have a more rounded roof (female). And then there are rectangular and square buildings too. All in all, not a bad test run. I'll post more after I add the other dwelling types ... the sky ... mountains in the background, etc.

... so I'm back to work. I've totally turned issue one of NETERS on it's head. Doing the research; one of my favorite things to do during the creation-process, and looking at Dogon villages. These pics were found on the web and therefore do not belong to me. I'm using them as reference pics for a 3D model of the Dogon city I'm building using Softimage and Hexagon. You'll see...
